Troop 800 Open House - 02/26/2022

Scouts BSA Troop 800 Open House

Date: Saturday, February 26, 2022
Place: Bethel Baptist Church, 1100 Huguenot Springs Rd, Midlothian, Virginia 23113
Just one minute west of West Chester Commons Shopping Center on Rt. 60 (Midlothian Tpk)

We have a morning of scouting fun planned for your son and daughters with cooking, fire building, and erecting tents, as well as rope knots and lashing activities, some of the activities your son can experience as a scout! We would also like to share with you as parents why Troop 800 might be a good a good fit for your son and your family.

You can find more information about Troop 800 at http://www.bsatroop800.net. It provides information about the troop, with stories and photos about the fun awaiting your boys.

Here are some of the reasons to choose Troop 800:

  • Over 30 years of experience mentoring, building character and leading boys to be better versions of themselves. WE HELP GET YOUR BOYS OFF SCREENS FOR A LITTLE WHILE AND INTO THE OUTDOORS WHILE LEARNING VALUABLE LIFE SKILLS!
  • Troop 800 has more trained assistant scout masters than most troops in Huguenot Trail District. We have a camping trip every month (except December due to the holiday and July because of summer camp) and all our trips leave on Friday evening and return on Sunday afternoon. With such a large number of dedicated leaders, each scheduled event is ensured more than adequate supervision and rides to and from the camping trips are not an issue. You can help them gain some independence and give yourself some free time, as your attendance on these trips is optional.
  • Access to Camp Parsons (Sharon Parsons Foundation) in Cumberland County – The Troop 800 enjoys having open access to a camp located in Cumberland County that it uses for many weekend camping trips. This was especially convenient during COVID, where we could better control contact with others and keep the boys safe.
  • Being a member of Troop 800 is not a costly endeavor. Other than the initial joining of fee of $125, which includes registration, Scout book, neckerchief, slide, shoulder loops, numbers and other misc. items, there are NO ANNUAL DUES and the average camping trip cost is just $20 each month and that is just for food. The troop pays for all recharter and awards fees. Other troops may charge up to $300 or more per year. Our sole fundraiser we engage in - just one March weekend each year - covers the cost of dues and many activities for our scouts for the entire year!

We welcome you to visit with us on January 29th to see what Troop 800 can offer your son. If the 29th is not convenient with you, please call Scoutmaster Rodney Parsons at 804-514-8880 and we would be happy to set up another more convenient time.

We appreciate your consideration of Troop 800, and other troops in the area, because no matter what troop you select, you are making a good choice in Scouting BSA. We look forward to seeing you on January 29th.

Sincerely,

The Scouts and Leaders of Troop 800
