Hampden-Sydney College Merit Badge Day

Based on your feedback, we've made improvements to enhance the experience. This year's event promises to be bigger and better than ever before!

Hampden-Sydney College near Farmville, Virginia is hosting a Merit Badge College Day on Saturday, June 7, 2025 open to all Scouts BSA Troops in the Heart of Virginia Council. Thanks to the support and involvement of the college administration, faculty, staff and community, we are able to offer a great day and merit badge opportunities taught by qualified instructors. While you are here, we hope you will explore our 1330 acre historic campus.

The cost of the event is $25.00 per Scout BSA Scout and Adult Leader. This fee includes Saturday's lunch (there will be two meal shifts) in the Hampden-Sydney dining hall in Pannill Commons, coffee time for Adult Leaders in the Tiger Inn, HSC swag, and the opportunity for Scouts to attend up to two merit badge sessions.

Registration is only available through this registration link. Online payment is required at the time of registration. Two-deep leadership is required on campus at all times for each registered Scouts BSA Scout Troop and their registered Scouts. Each registration requires a minimum of two Adult Leaders. The registration will not be able to be completed without named adult leadership.

Tentatively Scheduled Merit Badges To Be Offered: Archaeology, Astronomy, Bird Study, Chemistry, Citizenship in the Nation and World, Disc Golf, Emergency Preparedness, Fly Fishing, Gardening, Law, Robotics, Swimming, Theater, and many others.

Adult Leaders will have the opportunity to sign up for:

  • Wilderness First Aid Training (course will run Saturday and Sunday - cost $225)
  • A guided hike of the Wilson Trail - Join us Saturday morning for a guided 3 mile hike through the beautiful forested grounds surrounding Hampden Sydney College and learn more about the College and its history.

Dress Code: Scouts and leaders are welcomed to wear their field or activity uniforms, per their preference.
